the confused algorithm

spotify got confused on what music to recommend for me to listen to next,
probably because i like to listen to coltrane after i listen to el-p and tupac
before going into an hour long listening session of aerosmith and chicago,
then manchester orchestra, then leos janacek, a little bit of bach,
with the final touch of mountain goats and sex pistols to round out my music-listening day,
after which, i must admit, i am a bit exhausted

to stop recommending xmas music
for this entire month?
perhaps i need to be the type of person
that just plays cannibal corpse
all throughout november and december

it was one of those songs by one of those bands

that i used to know their name and all the names of the band members,
but now they’re a distant memory and i can barely,
rarely, fairly, remember the name of my first girlfriend,
who gave me mono—

i wasn’t all that great of a first-time kisser,
if i’m being honest
