stop laughing at me

if this poem sounds like a joke,
then that’s a mistake,
because i didn’t intend for it to come across like that,
but if you’re laughing, then it might mean
i’m unintentionally funny at times,
or, and this is more probable, you’re high on marijuanaand have not been exposed to reefer madness yet

Jokes on You; But Not Really

awkward laughter fills the acne-scarred air,
jokes told with insouciance,
the mood shifts, hearts aflutter,
the moment strained

eyes dart around, trying to read,
a discomfort of awkward deed,
a hush descends,
the silence clear,
and what’s left is laughter escaping once again
