THE BAND I USED TO, STILL, LIKE

the song ends in the middle
and it’s disconcerting,
it makes me feel as if the world abruptly ended,
especially since i kinda liked the song,
it was one of those songs by one of those bands
that is at the tip of my tongue,
that i used to know their name and all the names of the band members,
but now they’re a distant memory and i can barely,
rarely, fairly, remember the name of my first girlfriend,
who gave me mono—
though i don’t think it was completely her fault,
i wasn’t all that great of a first-time kisser,
if i’m being honest

IT DOESN’T HURT TO ASK

bored at work,
and writing poems on a loose piece of legal paper
while listening to dinosaur jr.
and wondering if they’d ever let me join their band,
or maybe i’m too young,
have too short of hair,
and too little talent,
all of which might be true,
but it still hurts to hear

Playa de Musica

the band plays instruments in monotonous tones

through iron bars born from ire

melted in the sand for quite some time

until the band comes out to play another set

encore

encore

let the music continue forevermore
