Fred Aiken Writing

large and in charge

i have a sneaking suspicion
that whoever is in charge of this
doesn’t feel too compelled to enunciate words
trapped in the back of their throat
that no one seems to know the definition of
quite yet

lunch-ish time

there’s a spider web on the back patio
that i notice while
making a pb&j with cinnamon raisin english muffin, because i didn’t buy regular bread at the store and the english muffin is technically past date, but doesn’t look moldy, so i figured it would be fine to slap some peanut butter and grape jelly on,
but i’m not sure if the spider agrees with my choice,
because it’s made itself scarce as i take the first bite

wrote something down, i guess

most days i would rather not do a single thing,
so at the very least,
i wrote this down,
and today,
i guess that will be enough
