Flipping the Ray

A group of CDC scientists had the best of intentions when they began to experiment with converting eyes into ray guns. Originally, the design of the ray guns would be embedded into citizens’ DNA and would emit low frequency ultraviolet light as a way to eradicate certain harmful bacteria that plagued society with how effectively they spread microscopic viruses through their small, atomic-level world. 

It didn’t take long before eye ray guns became weaponized. Suddenly everyone was an X-Men type of hero or villain, and any sort of slight against them, they utilized their modified eyes to slice them down. 

At first it seemed a little humorous, since none of the citizens’ eyes emitted a strong enough ultraviolet ray to do any sort of harm. In fact, when they used their ray guns on their supposed enemies, in a lot of ways it made them healthier since it killed all the bad bacteria that might have been living on them. 

The experience, though, was more of a cathartic one. It made people feel better to be able to shoot a ray at someone rather than the bird.
